Humidity Absorber Dry-Down Time Estimator (SF₆ Breakers)
Estimation only. Passive connection (no intentional purge/flow). Model assumes moisture reduction is driven primarily by natural gas exchange/breathing through the connected path and a strong desiccant sink.
Best / Typical / Conservative
1) Breaker Gas & Target

Use nameplate or service records (gas charge weight).
Used to estimate gas volume from mass (ideal gas).
Minimum allowed: 32°F / 0°C (below freezing not supported).
Temperature must be ≥ 32°F (0°C).
2) Connection Geometry

Represents fittings/valves/orifices as added path resistance.
3) Calibration (Auto Model)
Scales geometry-based estimates up/down.
Qeff defaults used at reference geometry (1/4" ID, 25 ft hose, 10 ft restriction): Best 0.03 L/min, Typical 0.01 L/min, Conservative 0.003 L/min.
Model: t = (V / Qeff) · ln(x0/xf)
4) Desiccant Capacity Check (Canister)

Auto-selected from canister size.
Fill all required fields above to calculate.

This calculator estimates the amount of water, in milliliters, present in an SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride) reservoir. This estimation is critical for correctly sizing an external drying canister, essential for moisture removal from the SF6 gas.

For instance, if the calculator indicates approximately 15ml of water in an SF6 breaker, you can confidently select a drying canister with a maximum absorption capacity of 40ml, ensuring it is both adequate and efficient for the task.

The underlying formulas used in this calculator come from our SF6 Dewpoint Calculator & standard conversion formulas. This calculation is meant to serve as an estimate, and we do not claim it to be 100% accurate.
