The GasQuip Analyzer Verification Gas Kit is an important accessory to any brand of SF6 analyzer. When operating an SF6 analyzer, it’s vital to know that your device is giving you accurate readings. Checking your device with certified gas mixtures is a simple way to verify that your analyzer is functioning within the specified tolerances. This kit is compatible with any SF6 analyzer, and other gas mixtures are available upon request. This kit is not intended for performing calibrations, only verifying within a certain range.

The Need For an Accurate SF6 Analyzer

SF6 gas analysis has always been an important step in maintaining Gas Insulated Equipment (GIE). The tool of choice for electrical utilities and contractors has always been some version of a portable SF6 Analyzer. These analyzers allow an operator to quickly hookup to SF6 equipment and understand the composition of the gas within a few minutes. The most common tests will analyze the purity of the SF6 gas as a percentage, the amount of SO2 in terms of PPM, and the moisture content measured in dew point. If these values fall out of the manufactures recommended range, there is a potential that the equipment can become severely damaged. This of course can mean massive amounts of financial burden to replace the damaged equipment.

SF6 Analyzer out of tolerance

Confucius once said “If a craftsman wants to do good work, he must sharpen his tools”. So the question comes up… how do you know if my tool even needs to be sharpened in the fist place? Your analyzer might look the exact same since the day you bought it (minus the cracked screen because you dropped your crescent wrench on it). So it can be hard to tell if your unit is still performing the way it was intended to without having a benchmark to test against. That’s where we come in

Verification Gases

Using our verification gas kit, you can hook up calibrated gases directly to your analyzer. For example, you can hook up the pure bottle of SF6 and run a test on your analyzer. If you’re unit is showing 94% SF6 when it should show 99.9%, it’s time to send in the unit for service to the manufacturer. We recommend utilizing this kit to verify your analyzer is in tolerance at all times.
